The Future is Female: Rock The Vote
POPSUGAR x ROCK THE VOTE
Lifestyle media platform, PopSugar, is branching out into news and politics! They are teaming up with initiative Rock The Vote, a nonprofit organization founded in 1990 encouraging young people to use their voice. Since PopSugar reaches 1 in 3 millennial women, they are pairing up to reach the goal of getting 1 million women to register to vote this year.
“We’re empowering women to get inspired, have a voice, and make a difference.”
To register, visit the Rock The Vote page on PopSugar's website, choose which state you will be voting in, and enter your information. Super easy and only takes 2 minutes! They even have a 2016 Election page with the latest in election goodness because there is never a dull moment. Am I right?
Along with this partnership, PopSugar is also releasing a series of videos and documentaries via PopDocs. Each profile women breaking molds and glass ceilings. The first episode spotlights professional ballet dancer Misty Copeland (being a former dancer myself, I am SO psyched to see she was first). Misty is the first African-American woman to become a principal dancer within New York City’s American Ballet Theater. While being insanely talented, driven, and endlessly poised (as expected) she has acted as a pioneer in diversifying the world of ballet. In addition to PopDocs, find her own documentary A Ballerina's Tale. She is one of the most beautiful dancers/artists/human beings I have ever seen.
Lastly, the lifestyle publisher is linking up with Sheryl Sandberg's nonprofit LeanIn.org creating a series of short videos on gender equality. Lean In is a community devoted to inspiring and empowering women in reaching their full potential. They offer free lectures, support circles (held in person or online), and daily encouragement for women to openly exchange ideas while sharing their stories. I highly recommend reading Sandberg's book Lean In too! All around an incredible and life-changing organization.
